Taking Stock

Updated: Apr 29

So, I'm taking stock of our situation, and here’s what we’ve got so far:

  1. Land. ✔️

  2. A house that’s almost ready to move into. (Its so close!)

  3. A small flock of chickens that supply us with eggs and snuggles. I know its weird, but I find great therapeutic value in hugging a chicken, and I will not apologize for it. As for butchering them? Yeah… not quite there yet. Maybe in time. Maybe.

  4. Gardening. Okay, so far, our gardening skills suck. Like, so bad. But we do have hundreds of dollars' worth of planters and soil, which is something, right? Oh, and we have lots of vegetable seeds! Haven't successfully grown much yet, but hey, details.

And… that’s about it.

Seeing it written down like this is a little disheartening. We’ve got a long way to go. We still need a greenhouse to extend our short Colorado growing season (and a green thumb to go with it), a barn, yaks to put in said barn, and—big one here—knowledge about raising yaks. Feels like a lot. And I’m sure I’m forgetting about a thousand other things.

But we’re not giving up.

Do we know what we’re doing? Heck no. Are we gonna do it anyway? Absolutely. Sort of. To the best of our ability.

(Fist pump!) WOO!

Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect—it’s all about the -ish.
