Bleating Things

Is there anything you can't find on Facebook Marketplace? I'm serious. You want a 1980s hair crimper? It’s on there. A vintage Garfield beanbag chair? It's probably on there right next to someone’s listing for a haunted porcelain doll. But what we found were Nigerian Dwarf goats. (Not haunted though... just to clarify.)
Since getting our chicken flock established and doing a pretty good job of keeping them alive so far, we were feeling slightly competent (dangerous territory) and had been toying with the idea of leveling up in our homestead-ish game. We already had a booming supply of fresh eggs (and chicken snuggles), wouldn't it also be amazing to get a continuous supply of fresh milk as well? (And goat snuggles? Just sayin'...) A cow might be the most obvious choice for milk, but they're huge and kind of scary. And probably way above our level of experience at this point. But surely we could manage a couple of goats, right?
Nigerians Dwarfs are a very small breed, as the Dwarf part implies, duh. They also reportedly have a sweet disposition and are beginner-friendly. Starter goats, per se. Basically the training wheels of the dairy world. So we went over just to check them out—strictly for the purpose of research. An hour later, we were driving home with two of the cutest little doelings in the back of our 4Runner like it was meant to be.
Meet Tilly and Melissa!

So now we’ve added two more living, breathing, bleating beings to our growing homestead and honestly, we couldn’t be more excited. Or nervous. Or both. Now we are responsible for two more lives and I hope we can manage it. I'm so thankful for the property God has blessed us with and the desire He put in our hearts to take this new, yet unfamiliar path we're on.
